Bifrost Communications Announces the First Customer Deliveries of 25 Gbps / 40 km Transceivers and Launches its Priority Access Program at OFC 2026

Copenhagen, Denmark – March 2026: Bifrost Communications today announces a major milestone in its evolution as a provider of complete transceiver solutions: the first customer deliveries of its 25 Gbps transceiver with 40 km reach is scheduled for Spring 2026.

The announcement marks a significant step forward for the company and reinforces its commitment to delivering high-performance, cost-efficient optical solutions for next-generation DWDM networks.

Bifrost Communications will showcase its technology at OFC 2026 in Los Angeles, where customers and partners are invited to experience the company’s innovative quasi-coherent (QC) technology and discuss deployment opportunities.

Join the Priority Access Program

To support customers preparing for network upgrades and expansion, Bifrost is launching its Priority Access Program. Participants will:

  • Receive early test samples
  • Gain priority for volume orders
  • Secure supply as production capacity ramps up

This program is designed to give network operators and system integrators a strategic advantage as demand for high-capacity, cost-optimized solutions accelerates.

Bifrost’s proprietary QC technology delivers distinct competitive advantages

  • Lower cost, reduced power consumption, and compact footprint (SFP28/SFP56 form factors)
  • DSP-free PIC-based optical architecture supporting both 25 Gbps and 50 Gbps transceivers
  • Seamless upgrade from 10 Gbps to 25 Gbps in DWDM networks
  • Wavelength-selective receiver enabling filterless DWDM
  • Standard EML transmitter
  • Near-zero latency and extended reach enabled by DSP-free analog dispersion compensation

By eliminating the need for digital signal processing (DSP), Bifrost achieves lower latency, reduced power consumption and a simplified architecture improving at the same time dispersion reach and power budget.

Future development & Production in Europe

Bifrost keeps working to advance its proprietary Quasi Coherent transceiver technology with plans to expand its DSP-free portfolio. The current offer includes 10, 25 and 50 Gbps. 100 Gbps is in development and Bifrost continues to work on increasing reach for all transceivers in the range.

This evolution will bring the benefits of Bifrost’s Quasi Coherent architecture to higher bit rates, empowering network operators to efficiently manage accelerating traffic growth and the sustained demand for increased bandwidth.

With R&D based in Denmark and production in Belgium, Bifrost combines European photonics innovation with scalable manufacturing capability to support increasing global demand.

The 25 Gbps solution utilizes Bifrost’s 25 Gbps DSP free Transceiver PIC. “In combination with Semtech’s
GN2146 CDR Bifrost’s Quasi-Coherent Receiver enables 40 km reach at 25 Gbps in the C-band,” said Jesper
Bevensee Jensen, CTO at Bifrost Communication.

Jesper continues: “Soon to follow is the 50 Gbps solution which utilizes Bifrost’s 50 Gbps PAM4 Silicon
Photonics Transceiver PIC in combination with Semtech’s Tri-Edge™ CDR IC. The 50 Gbps enables 20 km reach in
the C-band targeting requirements for 6G fronthaul set by MOPA.” (The Mobile Optical Pluggables Alliance)
“The industry requires flexible solutions that can address varying distance requirements without compromising
performance or increasing complexity,” said Raza Khan, Director of Marketing, Wireless at Semtech’s Signal
Integrity Products Group. “Semtech’s comprehensive portfolio spanning 10 Gbps to 50 Gbps with our
ClearEdge®, Tri-Edge™, and FiberEdge® product lines provides system vendors and carriers with the tools they
need to solve the hardest problems in 5G and 5G-Advanced fronthaul deployments, whether they’re dealing
with 10 km metropolitan links or challenging 40 km+ rural deployments. The GN2146C exemplifies our
commitment to enabling all architectures with best-in-class CDR and TIA technology.”

In June 2023 we announced that Bifrost Communication had been selected to receive funding by the European Innovation Council (EIC) through the Accelerator Program. The Council screened almost 500 companies and only 32 companies qualified for the funding, and Bifrost Communications was one of them. The funding in this first phase has been received in the form of a Grant.
The program contains a potential direct equity investment by the EIC Fund, which requires matching 1 to 1 by new external investors.
We are very proud to announce that we in May 2024 closed a first tranche investment round and raised a substantial amount with participation of the EIC Fund, 2 new external investors, and existing owners.

Bifrost Communications Aps is proud to announce our latest 25 Gbps QC-ASIC enabling 40 km C-band transmission due to our patented built-in analogue chromatic dispersion compensation.

The ASIC is ready for integration into our Quasi-Coherent (QC) Receiver Optical Sub-Assembly (ROSA), that can be combined with off-the-shelf 25 Gbps TOSAs into an SFP 28 form factor.

Applications include DWDM links for mobile fronthaul and other use-cases.

Features

  • Transmission capability up to 25 Gbps with 40 km reach in the C-band
  • Built-in patented analogue dispersion compensation
  • Receiver sensitivity better than -19.5 dBm from B2B to 40 km
  • No penalty for PRBS 31 patterns compared to PRBS 7 patterns @ BER = 5e-5
